Lindsay Davenport rallied to defeat Anna Chakvetadze 7-6 (4), 3-6, 7-5 Wednesday at the China Open. She will face Zheng Jie in the next round.

"Zheng is a good player and a top player in China," Davenport said. "Hopefully, I can play better."

Second-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova advanced when Jelena Kostanic retired after trailing 2-1.

Peng Shuai advanced with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 upset over eighth-seeded Maria Kirilenko. Marion Bartoli defeated Anabel Medina Garrigues 6-3, 6-3.

Peng will face Ai Sugiyama, who defeated Nicole Vaidisova 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.

"As I was playing at home, the fans gave me a lot of support," Peng said. "From the third set, I found my rhythm."
