2007 New York Fashion Week
Though the Spring 2007 fashion week season just came to a close, the next season of collections, kicking off in New York in February, is already on the mind.

New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg announced in a statement today that the city will continue to allow IMG Fashion, who operates the semi-annual fashion weeks in Bryant Park, to pitch their tents in February for what is known commercially as "Olympus Fashion Week."

"While it is clear that due to its success, Fashion Week has outgrown the facilities available at Bryant Park, Fall Fashion Week, which takes place in February, is just around the corner, and we have determined that the search for a suitable home will require further analysis and planning," said Mayor Bloomberg in a statement. "The City will continue to work with IMG and the fashion industry to locate a permanent home for Fashion Week."

Previously, it had been reported that Bryant Park Corp. wanted to use the park during that period for their winter ice skating rink.

Bryant Park, adjacent to the New York Public Library on 42nd Street, has been the central home of fashion week in New York since 1993 when 7th on 6th, acquired by IMG in 2001, began holding shows there.

Increasingly, the park has becomes more of a public circus at this time of year with pedestrian traffic jams created by celebrity gawking and the huge glut of sponsors vying for attention on the steps of the park.

Despite its convenient central location, however, many of New York's top designers have elected to show elsewhere in the city in spaces that are tailored to the brand's identity. Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan and Ralph Lauren are just some of the mega names who do not show at Bryant Park.
