Courtney Love: Clean, Lean Colonic Machine

Courtney Love has cleaned up her act, in more ways than one.

"Some people think it's about weight loss, but it's about detoxing," the newly slimmed-down alt-rocker says in the September issue of Harper's Bazaar, on newsstands Aug. 21.

Love, whose weight has been known to fluctuate as often as her moods, blames her last bout of gaining on a bad breakup and an imbalanced diet, and credits her subsequent slim-down to a strict regimen that includes regular colonics.

"My daughter and I were kind of going for it because the dessert's fantastic," the former Hole frontwoman said of the macrobiotic diet she was following beforehand. "I put on 30 pounds and I put on another 15 out of emotional depression. Then I finally get an Italian Vogue cover, and I'm 182 pounds."

While she still indulges in macrobiotic edibles, the now 139-pound Love balances it out with fish and two meal replacement shakes per day. She also fasts several times a year and visits a clinic for those figure-friendly colonics.

"By the way, I hate reading magazines where the actresses are saying, 'Broccoli and fish, broccoli and fish,'" said Love, who appears on the Harper's cover clad in only a hat, shoes and strategically placed jewelry. "You liars. You bulimic liars."

Whether the broccoli lovers out there agree or not, Love seems to be happy with herself once again, inside and out.

"For many years, I took pills. I felt like I had this dirty secret," said the oft-troubled singer, who checked into rehab to kick an addiction to prescription painkillers about two years ago and is now proud to say that she is fully tuned in to her craft.

About her upcoming album, Nobody's Daughter, she added: "It's the first time I've written sober…the first time I've written from a really deep, dark place." Her second solo effort is due out sometime next year.

Love didn't need a deep, dark place, however, to make amends recently with designer Karl Lagerfeld, who photographed and interviewed the svelte blonde for her upcoming cover story. Earlier this year, Love was not one of the Chanel purveyor's favorite people after she was spotted in a Lagerfeld copycat gown at Paris Hilton's birthday party, according to the Harper's article, whose headline reads, "I'd Rather Go Naked than Wear Fake Chanel."

"I wrote Mr. Lagerfeld a letter, an in-depth apology…I offered to pay for the dress, throw him a party, do whatever I needed to do to make up for this horrific thing," she said. "In a way, it's insanely subversive, because I don't think anyone has done fake couture before. But honest to God, I did not know. I hope it was burned."

As for their photo shoot, "I really connected with Karl in a way that I didn't think I was going to…from the ponytail to the image and the persona, I didn't think we were going to click, but I ended up genuinely and sincerely liking the man."
