Posh Spice to play bridesmaid on US television show
2007-09-02
Victoria Beckham, the British former pop star and celebrity wife of England footballer David, is to appear in a US television comedy titled "Ugly Betty," the ABC network said Friday. The celebrity, known as "Posh Spice" in the recently reunited girl-power group the Spice Girls, is to play herself as a guest star on the show, which is based on a popular Colombian "telenovela," or soap opera. The Beckhams have lived in Los Angeles, the heart of US showbusiness, since the footballer arrived this summer after signing with the local soccer team LA Galaxy under a multi-million dollar deal. She will act as bridesmaid to the villainess Wilhelmina Slater, played by Vanessa Williams, when the character marries the publishing mogul Bradford Meade, played by Alan Dale, ABC said in a statement. "Who knows what will happen when 'bridezilla' Wilhelmina takes that march down the aisle, especially with 'Posh Spice' leading the way?" the channel said. The episode is due to be filmed during the autumn. It is Posh's second outing on the US small screen since her move here. Shortly after arriving in the United States, she appeared in a special program run by the NBC channel, "Victoria Beckham: Coming to America." The new season of "Ugly Betty" begins on September 27. The show is up for 11 Emmy awards on September 16.
