Game 4 a decisive win for Sox, Fox

It might not have gone more than four games, but the Boston Red Sox's second World Championship since 2004 still boosted Fox to a primetime win Sunday night. Accurate estimates won't be available until Tuesday, but Game 4 gave a victory to the network even with a new episode of ABC's power-hitting player "Desperate Housewives." In preliminary estimates, likely to go up, the deciding Game 4 averaged at least 19.7 million viewers and a 6.6 rating/15 share in the adults 18-49 demographic, according to Nielsen Media Research. That wasn't anywhere near the 28.8 million viewers and 10.0/26 that Fox got four years ago when the Red Sox rolled over the St. Louis Cardinals for their first World Series championship since 1918. But it was enough to beat "Housewives" (18.1 million, 7.1/6) head to head and across the entire night in viewership and come close to it in the demo. Sunday's Game 4 also was better than last year's Game 4 (16.1 million, 5.1/15) between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Detroit Tigers or the deciding Game 5 (16.3 million, 5.0/16). "Housewives" was down only slightly compared with last week (18.2 million, 7.3/16). CBS benched its 8 p.m. starter, subbing a repeat "CSI" (9.4 million, 2.2/6) before registering a week-to-week increase for "Cold Case" (11.7 million, 3.0/7) and about even ratings for "Shark" (10.3 million, 2.3/6). ABC's "Brothers & Sisters" (12.7 million, 5.1/13) was up strongly week to week. With "Sunday Night Football" taking a rest because of the World Series, NBC fell to fourth place for the night. But it was still better than the CW's family drama "Life Is Wild" (1.1 million, 0.4/1) dropped from last week in the demo (0.5/1). In preliminary estimates, Fox (17.6 million, 6.0/15) prevailed against ABC (13.5 million, 5.0/13); CBS (11.1 million, 2.6/6); NBC (5 million, 1.7/4); and the CW (1.1 million, 0.4/1).
