Owens and Peterson spark NFC to Pro Bowl victory
2008-02-11
Terrell Owens and Adrian Peterson scored fourth-quarter touchdowns to rally the NFC to a 42-30 victory over the AFC in the NFL's Pro Bowl at Honolulu on Sunday. The Dallas Cowboys' Owens hauled in a six-yard pass from Tampa Bay quarterback Jeff Garcia to give the NFC the lead at 35-30 before Minnesota's Peterson scored on a six-yard run to wrap up the win. Both Owens and Peterson had two touchdowns with Peterson collecting MVP honors. Owens teamed with Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo on a six-yard scoring pass in the second quarter. Peterson, who rushed for 129 yards on 16 carries, had a 17-yard TD run in the third quarter that briefly gave the NFC a 28-27 lead. Tennessee's Rob Bironas then kicked his third field goal, a 28-yarder with 7:02 left in the third quarter, to put the AFC ahead 30-28. Romo passed for two touchdowns with Garcia and Seattle's Matt Hasselbeck throwing for one each for the NFC. Cincinnati's T.J. Houshmandzadeh caught two touchdown passes for the AFC, grabbing a 16-yard toss from Indianapolis' Peyton Manning and a one-yarder from Pittsburgh's Ben Roethlisberger. The second gave his side a 24-7 advantage in the second quarter. Owens' first touchdown and one by the Washington Redskins' tight end Chris Cooley from a Hasselbeck pass helped the NFC cut the margin to 27-21 at halftime.
