China four win women's quadruple sculls rowing

BEIXIAOYING TOWN, China - China has won the gold medal in the women's quadruple sculls, winning the country's first-ever gold medal in the sport in front of a roaring home crowd. Tang Bin, Jin Ziwei, Xi Aihua and Zhang Yangyang crossed the finish line Sunday in 6 minutes, 16.06 seconds, blowing kisses and raising their arms in triumph. Fans and volunteers wildly cheered the four and waved flags. Annie Vernon, Debbie Flood, Frances Houghton and Katherine Grainger of Britain took the silver medal in 6:17.37. The German crew of Britta Oppelt, Manuela Lutze, Kathrin Boron and Stephanie Schiller won bronze in 6:19.56. China now has six career Olympic rowing medals.
