3 die in Neb. trench collapse trying to save 4th

VERDEL, Neb. - Officials in northeast Nebraska say four construction workers died in a collapsed trench after one of them fell in and his co-workers tried to rescue him. The Knox County Sheriff's office says in a news release that the four men were working on the drainage trench near Verdel on Friday morning when part of it collapsed. Officials say 24-year-old Travis Lunn of O'Neill fell into the collapsing trench. Officials say the three others tried to rescue him but also became trapped in the dirt. Killed were Lunn, 35-year-old David Peterson of O'Neill, 61-year-old Gary Forsch of Spencer and 43-year-old Brad Kelly of Lynch. Verdel is a town of about 60 people just south of the South Dakota line.
