BOSTON - Negotiations are restarting between unions at The Boston Globe and its owner, The New York Times Co., as another deadline approaches for Globe employees to make $20 million in concessions.

The Times Co. extended its original deadline of midnight Friday at the request of leaders of the Boston Newspaper Guild, the Globe's largest union. They planned to resume negotiations Sunday and try reach an agreement by midnight.

The Guild, which has been asked to come up with half of the concessions, requested the extension after union leaders said the company hadn't accounted for the salaries and benefits of 80 people who left their jobs this year.

The Times Co. announced in April that it would close the Globe unless the concessions were met.
