NBA to stage pre-season matches in Beijing and Taipei

BEIJING (AFP) - The Denver Nuggets will take on the Indiana Pacers in an NBA pre-season game in Beijing in October that follows an earlier match in Taiwan, the National Basketball Association announced Wednesday. "We are honoured to return to play ... in Beijing and are looking forward to providing a great game between the Nuggets and Pacers in October to our avid fans," head of NBA China Tim Chen said in a statement. Both teams will meet up in Taiwan's first-ever NBA game on October 8, before moving to Beijing for an October 11 clash, the statement said. The Taipei meeting was announced last month and is already sold out, while the Beijing fixture is the fifth arranged by the NBA outside its US and Canada home nations for this year. The world's top basketball league has staged seven pre-season games in China since 2004, including two games here between the Golden State Warriors and the Milwaukee Bucks in October last year.
