U.S. Hands Fugitive Banker Over to China

Yu Zhendong, right, a criminal suspect accused of embezzling $485 million from his state-owned bank, is arrested by Chinese police at the International Airport in Beijing, Friday, April 16, 2004. Yu was returned to China on Friday by U.S. authorities under a promise that he won't be executed, the U.S. government announced. The handover was highly unusual for the U.S. and China, which have no extradition treaty but are trying to improve cooperation between their law enforcement agencies.
