Taiwan sex scandal woman seeks $4 mln in damages TAIPEI - A former Taiwan politician embroiled in a sex scandal on Thursday sought nearly US$4 million in damages from an estranged boyfriend and others who filmed and distributed tapes showing her having sex with a married man. A lawyer representing Chu Mei-feng, who shot to notoriety after a tabloid magazine gave away video discs of her having sex, filed a civil lawsuit and demanded over T$130 million (US$3.7 million). Chu's lawyer, Chung Cheng-sheng, said Chu was "devastated" by the scandal. She did not appear in court when the trial opened on Thursday. Prosecutors have charged Chu's former boyfriend, Tsai Jen-chien, her estranged friend, Kuo Yu-ling, and publishers of the Scoop magazine with invading Chu's privacy and sought sentences of up to four years. The government seized thousands of copies of the magazine and accompanying VCDs, but pirated copies of the video made their way across the globe. The TV reporter-turned politician, 35, disappeared from the public eye after the scandal broke but quickly followed up with a book detailing her affairs with six lovers, dished out media interviews and worked as a radio DJ. Chu also held concerts in Hong Kong this week after launching her singing debut in Singapore in March.
