A Los Angeles judge brought an early end to Courtney Love's probation on drug and assault charges on Monday, telling the tearful singer she had earned it by completing a substance abuse program.

Love, the 42-year-old widow of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain, sobbed as she thanked Superior Court Judge Rand Rubin, who also dismissed all three of the misdemeanor charges -- two for drug possession and one for assaulting musician Kristin King.

Her probation had been set to expire next month in the drug cases and in 2008 for the assault.

"I'm so happy and so excited. I'm relieved," Love told Us Weekly magazine. "I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I'm happy helping people and helping myself. I just want to put all this stuff behind me. It's so last year."

Prosecutors and a lawyer for King had asked the judge to keep her on probation in the assault case as a protection for the victim, but Rubin said he was confident the two women would stay away from each other.

Love was accused of dousing King with a bottle of Johnnie Walker Red Label scotch, throwing a lit candle at her head and pinching her breast. The attack came after Love found King sleeping on a couch at the home of Love's ex-boyfriend.

Love pleaded no contest to the assault case in February 2005. She entered guilty pleas in May 2004 and February 2005 to separate charges of being under the influence of cocaine and illegal possession of prescription painkillers.
