Oscar winner Tom Hanks and the makers of 2002 comedy "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" have filed a lawsuit to recover profits from the film they allege they are still owed, it was reported Wednesday.

Hanks, who produced the film with wife Rita Wilson and Gary Coetzman, and the film's actress-writer Nia Vardalos are claiming an unspecified amount from Gold Circle Films, which helped develop the film, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The film, which according to the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles on Monday cost around five million dollars to make, has grossed nearly 370 million dollars worldwide since its release.

The film earned the previously unknown Vardalos an Academy Award nomination and is one of the most successful romantic comedies of recent years.

Hanks, Wilson, Vardalos and Coetzman allege that Gold Circle "has acted willfully, maliciously and in wanton disregard of plaintiffs' rights under the agreements," without mentioning a dollar amount.

Gold Circle said in a statement quoted by the Times that the suit "lacks any merit."
