China's Yang Wei retained his all-round title at the world gymnastics championships on Friday despite a spectacular fall from the horizontal bar.

Yang had built up such a big lead over the rest of the field that the botched effort on his final apparatus still allowed him to notch up a total of 93.675, 1.475 points ahead of second-placed Fabian Hambuechen of Germany.

Japan's Hisashi Mizutori took the bronze.

European all-round champion Maxim Deviatovsky of Russia, who had been lying in second place after four apparatus, withdrew from the competition after falling from the parallel bars.
