2007-11-10
The high-flying Detroit Red Wings beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-1 on Friday to record their ninth consecutive victory. Detroit netminder Dominik Hasek returned from a five-game absence to make 15 saves and earn the win. Daniel Cleary opened the scoring for Detroit with a first-period powerplay goal but Rick Nash tied the scores at 1-1 early in the second, also with the extra man. Tomas Holmstrom put the Wings 2-1 up at 13:53 of the second before Cleary and Henrik Zetterberg made the game safe for the home team. "The shot came down and hit the boards," Holmstrom told reporters. "(Blue Jackets netminder Pascal Leclaire) left the post open. Lucky for me, I scored there." Zetterberg's goal extended his points streak to 16 games. *Henrik Sedin's overtime goal, his second score of the game, sparked the Vancouver Canucks to a 2-1 home win over the Colorado Avalanche. *Andy McDonald and Ryan Getzlaf both scored in regulation and in the shootout as the Anaheim Ducks took a 3-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks. *Andrew Raycroft made 30 saves and the Toronto Maple Leafs shut out the Buffalo Sabres 3-0 in Buffalo. Mats Sundin had a goal and an assist for Toronto. *Ilya Kovalchuk scored his NHL-leading 14th goal on a third-period powerplay and the Atlanta Thrashers beat the Florida Panthers 4-1. *Patrick Kane and James Vandermeer had first-period powerplay goals in the Chicago Blackhawks' 4-2 home victory over the St. Louis Blues.
