Rising Hollywood actor Shia LaBeouf is to star in a new thriller about a deadbeat who discovers a top-secret drug that boosts intelligence, it was reported on Monday.
The 21-year-old star of "Transformers" and the eagerly-awaited fourth installment of the "Indiana Jones" action films, will play the lead role in "The Dark Fields," entertainment industry press reported.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, LaBeouf's character is a loser who suddenly discovers financial and social success after taking the drug before realizing it comes with deadly side-effects.
The film is an adaptation of Alan Glynn's acclaimed 2003 book of the same name. LaBeouf will next be seen in "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," to be released in US theatres in May.
