PARIS (AFP) - French first lady Carla Bruni's new album took the third spot on the music charts, behind British rock group Coldplay and French entertainer Laurent Voulzy, after its release in France last week.

Record company Naive said late Thursday that "Comme si de rien n'etait" (Simply), Bruni's third album, was a hot item in some stores where stocks ran out.

Industry sources told AFP that 14,100 copies of the album were sold in two days following its release on July 11.

Coldplay's "Viva la Vida", released on June 16, is the best-selling album in France while Voulzy's "Recollection", on sale since July 2, ranks second.

Madonna's "Hard Candy" broke the record for sales in France when nearly 38,000 copies were sold when it came out on April 25.

Bruni's record features 14 songs including the eyebrow-raising "Ma Came," a love song that draws a tongue-and-cheek parallel with drug addiction.

"L'Amoureuse" (The Lover) is getting play on French radio and a video is out, but there are no plans for the former supermodel-turned-singer to go on tour.

Bruni, who married President Nicolas Sarkozy in February after a whirlwind three-month romance, plans to donate revenues from the album sales to charity.
