Vienna opens 16th Jewish film festival
2008-11-13
VIENNA (AFP) - The 16th edition of the Vienna Jewish Film Festival opened Thursday with 35 feature films and several short subjects and documentaries on the programme of the two-week event. Among the highlights of the festival are a retrospective of works by Yiddish directors Sidney Goldin and Joseph Seiden, and a tribute to Austrian film and theatre actor Otto Tausig, focussing on the theme of "emigration and return," inspired by his own departure from Nazi Vienna in 1939 and return in 1946. Israeli and Palestinian films will meanwhile be featured in a programme entitled "We too have no home," dealing with issues of identity, borders and religion. Several Austrian and international features will also premiere during the festival, which runs until November 27, in several cinemas around Vienna.
