VERONA, New York (AFP) - US veteran Vaughn Taylor fired his second consecutive five-under par 67 to seize a one-stroke lead after the second round of the six million-dollar Turning Stone Resort Championship.

Taylor, ranked 131st on the US PGA Tour money list, is trying to keep his playing status for next season by cracking the top 125 after next month's final event of the season or winning this event.

Taylor finished 36 holes on 10-under par 134 with countrymen Matt Kuchar, Leif Olson and Nicholas Thompson, whose 14-year-old sister is a 36-hole co-leader who is vying to become the youngest winnner in LPGA history this weekend.

Sweden's Fredrik Jacobson and Americans Bo Van Pelt and Scott Piercy were another stroke back on 136.

Taylor, 33, has twice won the Reno-Tahoe Open title birdied three holes in a row starting at the eighth and answered a bogey at 11 with a birdie at the par-5 12th hole.

Olson had a bogey-free 69, firing three birdies and 15 pars.

"I just wanted to come out and try to shoot two- or three-under, but it just got really nasty on the back nine," Olson said. "The front was all right. It was a little windy, but when I had four or five holes left, it was just nasty."

Kuchar posted four birdies and an eagle with two bogeys to make his move.

"I've been playing some good golf. I've been real happy with the way things have gone," Kuchar said.
